I am a fiber-artist/painter with a BFA/Textile Design from the University of Kansas (1974). After years working in event design and fashion, I've returned to painting......mixed media, on canvas.
My current work is a personal, urgent study of souls - mine and others. Inspired by curiosity regarding auras, chakras and the beyond, the pieces are an exploration of intuition, inner voice, and transference of energy. It is emotion-based, and comes deeply from within. My return to this medium comes after the crossing-over of several loved ones, in a very brief period of time. Pent up anger, confusion, love, loss, and longing had to be expressed. I hibernated. I painted. I can't stop.
The scale of my work varies from 14" square to 40 x 60", with plans to go larger. Acrylics are my primary medium, with blasts of metallic leafing, oil pastel, pencil, chalk, spray paint, markers, as well as bare canvas. Texture is vital. Palette knives are my prominent tools. Colors surface from within......tones and moods could be black and dark, monochromatic, stark white, metallic, or fluorescent.
Spontaneity is key.
